CalMag

Description

CalMag is a custom blend of calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate in a particular ratio. Used as a calcium and magnesium supplement for plants, it’s high in nitrogen too. Often used in the buffering of coco peat or maintaining the right levels of calcium and magnesium in your hydroponic solution. Dissolves easily in water. Dosage:

• Maintenance – 1g/10L
• Deficiency 3g/10L
• Buffer – 1g/L

Calcium is incredibly important to plants, sometimes called the 4th biggest cation. Calcium makes up cell walls and membranes protecting from pathogens, giving plants their rigidity and resistance to pests and disease. Without it, plants will be weak and unable to support their fruits and flowers. Calcium also aids in nutrient uptake. Add calcium products to hydroponic solutions first. In solution the calcium ion is positively charged and will readily bond with phosphorous and sulphur. Once bonded, these nutrients are unavailable to plants. Silica and calcium can sometimes cause problems with each other when used together leaving a struvite precipitate. Some growers alternate their solutions, one with silica and no calmag. With the next solution change, cal mag and no silica.
