Description
Jiffy Preforma Plug were developed specifically for hard to root plants. Professional growers worldwide benefit from the flexibility of Jiffy Preforma Plugs.
Jiffy Preforma Plug retain an air content of 30% or more. This means no compaction, even under heavy misting conditions. Preforma are an ideal propagation medium, providing an optimal environment for even and fast rooting.
The plant plug binder’s structure ensures no transplant shock. This means you can ship or transplant the plugs earlier, freeing up valuable bench space. This allows for the faster rotation of crops.
Plugs are available for many different crops. But over the years Jiffy have developed some crop specialties such as: orchids, soft fruits, perennial from cuttings or TC, pot plants.
They are RHP certified and ISO 2001 Food Grade certified so they are great for food and medical cannabis production.
Usage and storage
The plugs are wet on arrival and packed in bags in their boxes. They have a shelf life of 3 months if kept properly sealed. Once the box is opened and some plugs used, reseal the bag with tape. Keep in a cool place and in very hot conditions refrigerated storage is a great solution.
They sometimes grow a bit of white mould on them in the bag. This is not a problem and disappears as soon as they are used. The two types commonly found are Trichoderma and Peziza 9 brown and yellow. They are saprophytic fungi and not harmful for the plants. Neither are plant pathogens.
The plugs feature a starter fertiliser in them so be aware of this. Plants would not need fertilising for the first week of growth after rooting.
Wet plugs before use (even if they are direct out of the bag and still wet) and then insert cuttings or seeds.
