Description
Ampelomyces quisqualis (AQ-sf) is a local fungal isolate to South Africa. Acting as a biological fungicide, it’s a hyper parasite to the common powdery mildew. It has been known to attack up to 64 kinds of mildew.
Current Batch Expiry Date – 16/04/25
Mode of Action:
Plants infected with powdery mildew will display white patches of fluff. It can be found on leaves, stems or flowers. The pest fungus will pierce cell walls and sap plants dry of food and fluids. If left untreated plants can easily die.
After AQ-SF application, A. quisqualis spores enter the body of the powdery mildew. It then spreads within the fungus’ body over a few days. At this time, PM will not die but also not be able to multiply. A. quisqualis will then fruit inside the ‘strands’ of the powdery mildew, killing it in the process. Plant tissue infected with powdery mildew killed by A. quisqualis will also die.
Most effective as a biological fungicide when used on a regular basis. Apply as prevention rather than cure. Able to over winter or survive inter crop periods. Success is most common at warmer temps like 20-30°C.
AQ-sf is not compatible with:
- Jadam Wetting Agent.
- Copper and sulphur products.
- General and systemic fungicides.
- Citrus oils, oxidisers and sterilisers.
Suitable wetting agents include mono-silicilic acid, fulvic acids and molasses. Horticultural oils like Bio-Neem or canola aid efficacy.
