Harvesting and Trimming Tips
When you’ve decided that now is the time to harvest your cannabis, it’s best to cut down the whole plant at the base and hung upside down to dry. The quicker a plant dries the harsher the taste can be. The more biomass there is the longer the cannabis will take to dry, so hang the whole plant. Choose a space thats cool, dark and dry with a small amount of ventilation. An empty hanging cupboard with the door opened and closed 2-3 times a day is perfect. The garage can work well too as long as it doesn’t get too hot.
Cannabis is dry enough if the stem snaps when trying to bend it. If stems bend rather than break, your plants still have some drying to do. Buds should feel crispy to the touch and sugar leaves dried and shrivelled. Once cannabis is dry, remove the buds carefully from the stem and with a Stainless Steel Curved Shears, trim off the sugar leaves carefully. They contain carbs, chlorophyll and other compounds that don’t taste great when smoked. Now it’s time to cure. Perfect for cuttings, a thicker, green, flexible stem will give you the best chance of successfully cloning your plants.
Some cultivators prefer to cut just below a node, submerging that node in the plug to aid with rooting. They also like to trim big fan leaves for reasons that include saving space and limiting plant transpiration. The Stainless Steel Curved Shears are perfect for these kinds of jobs. Clean pruners or blades with San-O-Agri Extra Agricultural Sanitiser in-between plants to minimise the spread of disease.
